Rome
Retroscena
2017
Since 1883, the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome has housed the largest collection of contemporary art in Italy. With 58 rooms and over 130,000 annual visitors, the Gallery’s success is the result of the tireless efforts of a dedicated team. This project offers a unique glimpse behind the scenes of the museum. It explores the spaces that remain out of public view—places where only staff can go: storage rooms, conservation laboratories, and even subtle signs of the invisible presence of those who work tirelessly behind the artwork.
The Still Life series forms part of this second phase of the project. These images focus on objects from the Gallery's restoration lab, offering a quiet yet intimate portrait of the materials and tools that contribute to the preservation of art.
